CHARLES REDINGER, PHD

Throughout his career, Charles Redinger has been a tireless advocate for EHSS professionals—driven by the desire to make a positive impact on global health and well-being with them and their organizations. His transformative teaching, coaching, and frameworks supports EHSS professionals in building future-ready companies that provide sustained value, positive impact, and risk resilience. His research has included: leveraging EHSS to impact organizational health; risk as a generative social field; and using risk management as a vehicle to impact organizational culture. He is a recognized thought leader in risk management systems and performance measurement, and is sought after by corporations and regulators alike for his deep understanding of risk, public health, and organizational science.

Dr. Redinger has worked with a wide range of public- and private-sector organizations, including Global 500 companies, the Department of Defense, OSHA, NIOSH, and the ILO and ANSI committees that developed global standards for risk management and occupational health and safety management systems. His models and tools have been used throughout the world by regulators, standards developers, researchers, and private organizations. He has published extensively and written a book for Wiley Publishing (in press, 2022) titled, Organizational Risk Management: A Post-2020 Guide for EHSS Professionals and Their C-Suites.

Dr. Redinger holds a PhD in industrial health from the University of Michigan, an MPA in public policy from the University of Colorado, and a BA in chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He received a postdoctoral certificate in strategy and innovation from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and has done extensive training in awareness- and consciousness-building.

He has served in numerous leadership positions at the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), including six years on its Board of Directors, and was a founding director of the Center for Safety and Health Sustainability. Dr. Redinger has been member of the CDC/NIOSH Board of Scientific Counselors (2016–2019), and was an advisor to the RWJF/GRI Culture of Health for Business initiative. He currently serves as a strategic advisor to the Capitals Coalition. He has received numerous awards, including the Warren Cook Award from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and the Edward Baier Award from AIHA. He has served as an adjunct professor at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
